A general first question that is asked of clients is "What has helped you to make the decision to come for counselling now? "
An answer to the question could be something along the lines of......
There may have been a time in your life, when an event has happened out of the blue to knock you off your emotional and mental balance, it then overwhelms, resulting in you feeling less able to manage all the thoughts and emotions that arise.
What tends to happen is that you continue with your day to day activities however the overwhelming incident gets pushed down inside and is not dealt with and carrying on proves to be more difficult than usual.
At times you may decide to talk to partners or friends and this might help. However, you may not want to disclose your thoughts or feelings to someone that is in your circle of friends or family. This could partly be, not wanting to feel judged, or for what has been disclosed, not to be repeated at a later date, by the person you have told, or simply not wanting your issue to be known by another person you may see on a regular basis.
Life can have a way of working its way out and things may feel lighter, then another life event might occur and overwhelms again. However, this time it proves harder to carry on with your regular activities without thoughts of the issues affecting your everyday life, whether it be at work, or affecting personal relationships. what or who ever it affects can cause you to have negative views on self and may manifest in feelings of not knowing what to do or where to turn.
Here at Equilibrium Therapeutic Counselling we concentrate on helping to regain the balance back to your life. Working collaboratively to help you realise your goals by creating clarity and insight so that you no longer feel overwhelmed.

How long do the sessions last?
~The sessions last for a counselling hour which, is 50 mins.
How many sessions will I need?
~Counselling can be short term or long term. It really depends on your requirements. An initial 6 week block is recommended and if required can be extended until goals are achieved.
Is it important to attend sessions?
~Yes as you are contracting to work on your issues and through working on them collaboratively they can be achieved.
I live outside London/ the UK and would like to have counselling with you, is this possible?
~ There is Skype counselling if You are unable to attend in person.
